Around here people have monkeys, parrots, even jaguars as pets. That is if they don't kill them first - the monkeys for dinner, the jaguars for eating their chickens. Of course that does not help the mutual understanding between the Indiginous groups, locals and outside visitors. In Colombia the word 'Indio' (Indiginous person) is used as a common insult.
