June 2007 - Barrio Rafael Uribe Uribe, Bogota, Colombia |
Bogota is divided into 2 'halves', the North and the South. If you are born in the prosperous 'island' which comprises maybe 5% of the north of the city, your money is not likely to ever run out. If you are born in the south half, chances of ever reaching economic stability are extremely scarce. When you get to the mountains in the extreme south of the city where the city supposedly ends, you realize that there is a third 'half' to the city, south of the south part, where beyond the hills the city has expanded and expanded to where you can't even see the city itself anymore. This part of Bogota is mainly populated by the many displaced (about 400,000 yearly) that reach the city after having been scared away from their homelands in the conflict between guerrillas and paramilitaries. Other Photos
of the Month: The
'photo of the month' is not meant as something pretentious, it is not
even chosen by any jury. It could be an advertising photo I did, or a
photo for a magazine or record cover. Something telling you of a journey
I made or the city I'm in. Or a snapshot of my girlfriend. The only criterium
it has to meet is that it was made in the last month. And that I believe
it is worth bothering you with... |
