January 2005 - Cheerleaders, Venezuela |
Venezuela is probably the most macho of Latin countries, where the men are supposed to act very male, and the women mainly sexy. Male couples are hard to find in public, and I have yet o see a transvestite walking around a city. However, as soon as the New Year's parties are over, Venezuela starts preparing for Carnival. In order to build a carriage for the parades, money has to be gathered. Putting their neighborhood to shame, this 'carnival club' has decided to dress up and perform for the passing cars, making some people laugh, but others angry and insulted. Even for a couple of days a year, it seems hard for a lot of people here to have an open mind.

a magazine or record cover. Something telling you of a journey I made
or the city I'm in. Or a snapshot of my girlfriend. The only criterium
it has to meet is that it was made in the last month. And that I believe
it is worth bothering you with... |
